Force India has arrived! Mr. Mallya can sell more beer
Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who is perhaps best known for his body-licious Kingfisher swimwear calendar, set another groundbreaking record for India on the Formula One tracks. His team ‘Force India’ finished second in the Belgian Grand Prix, with Giancarlo Fisichella giving India our first ever Formula One race point.
But not surprisingly, Mr. Mallya’s victory is tainted with a smear of bitterness. A few days ago, our venerable Sports Minister turned down a grant for F1 races to be held in India, claiming that Formula One is “not purely sports”. In fact, he even went so far as to state that “F1 is entertainment and does not satisfy conditions which focus on human endeavor for excelling in competition with others.”
But, Mr. Mallya is nothing if not a marketing genius. He will surely find a way to use this success to sell more beer to us! Is that not what this is all about?
Sample this about his F1 team.
- The drivers are not Indian.
- The cars are not Indian.
- The event does not happen in India.
- F1 hardly has any fan base in India.
Yet, Mallya’s team is called ‘Force India“! …and we love him for that.
Take a bow, Vijay Mallya and Force India!
Squeeze a bit more!
