Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Sanjay Leela

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s getting cranky in his old age. Either that or the grueling shooting schedule of Guzarish has grossly stressed him out. Whatever it is, the notoriously short-tempered Mr. Bhansali is in dire need of some serious anger management.

Recently, on the sets of Guzarish, Sanjay was right in the middle of canning a shot when his cell phone had the temerity to ring. The irritable director picked up the phone and threw it down! Can you believe it? Just like that! Phew, what a temper!

Tch, Tch, Mr. Bhansali! Don’t you know that the best way to stop a cell phone from ringing is to simply switch it off? There’s absolutely no need to throw it down in anger.

No wonder all the technicians on Bhansali’s sets are in a perpetual state of terror, trying to gauge the mercurial director’s moods, so that they can duck in time the next time he throws something. Wot Say??

When he took on the cameo in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, I was pleasantly surprised. Usually star bachchas want to arrive on the big screen with full fanfare, band baaja, etc., and here was Prateik Babbar, the son of India’s finest actors Raj Babbar and the late Smita Patil, who debuted in a minor, yet distinct role.

Pratiek did his part pretty well as Genelia’s quirky brother. And, I thought, this guy cares more for the acting part of it, than the ’star’ part of it, especially because another youngster Imraan Khan was also debuting and he was the focus of the movie.

But now I hear that Prateik ditched Chandraprakash Dwivedi after talking to him about a role in a period flick. Instead, his next movie will now be with big banner Sanjay Leela Bhansali in My Friend Pinto. I’m forced to do a rethink on Prateik. Maybe he’s not really like his mom after all, who had her share of big banners, too, of course, but never shied away from a small-budget or hatke movie, if the role was meaty enough.

Well, there can only be on Smita Patil, so I guess it’s too much to expect her son to be like her. But given that Mr Dwivedi knows his history well, Jr Babbar might have passed up a chance to do something different and establish himself as a genuine actor rather than a common place tinsel star with mass appeal and no substance. I’m disappointed because with such an impressive film family pedigree, one would have expected better from him.

Our prayers have been answered!!

We no longer have to face Sach Ka Saamna or its smug presenter Rajeev Khandelwal. God bless Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Saurabh Narang for that.

Both have very bravely stepped up to cast Mr Khandelwal in their films Chenaab Gandhi and Return Gift respectively. Can’t thank them enough for delivering us from this overbearing twit with the hugely inflated ego.

And this has set him drooling big time. But there’s a teeny-weeny issue: he has to keep his hair long for SLB and cut it short for the other. Problem, you say? No problem, says Rajeev. He will chop, grill, or paint his hair, if required, even go bald for Bhansali. Hair will grow back, but you can’t trust your luck too much these days, you know, and Rajeev is aware of that.

He’s also reportedly not stopped jumping up and down after hearing that his co-actor is Amitabh Bachchan in Bhansali’s movie. Frankly, I don’t know why he’s so excited. The name Big B has stuck on, but Bachchan will pretty much do anything these days, short of hustling money on street corners with a tin cup, to finance his long-due retirement. Rajeev, I mean, if he can be a part of that sleazefest Bigg Boss 3 is it really any surprise that he will share screen space with an insignificant, small bit player like you?
