Ram Gopal Verma
Given his track record of making movies inspired by real life, I had been wondering what Madhur Bhandarkar’s next movie Jail would be based on. And it now turns out that at least some of the inspiration is from the infamous BMW case of Sanjeev Nanda and Alistair Pereira.
Now, this is what I like about this guy. He has the guts and the will to handle a tough, real subject. Something, which we can never expect from the likes of Karan Johar and company. Even Ram Gopal Verma’s movies, for that matter, dish out doses of un-reality, albeit in the realm of the gory and the mysterious. He did give us some good ones like Kaun and Bhooth, for instance, and Rangeela, of course, but lately he has lost his touch, and keeps losing it more with every subsequent film.
Anyway, Bhandarkar keeps exploring the life each one of us lives, and never fails to surface with something that shakes us up. Of course, he does make it filmy, can’t blame him for that though. No one wants to watch documentaries, and everyone wants BO success in order to survive.
So, I am actually looking forward to Jail, stuffed as I am with regular Bollywood fare like Love Aaj Kal, etc. Also, in this age of ‘made-up reality’ shows, I’m choking for something that I won’t find too hard to believe.
But Bhandarkar is snipping Jail ruthlessly here and there to appease the dreadful Indian Censor Board. After doing away with a nude scene of Neil Nitin Mukesh, he’s also left a masturbation scene out, it seems. Let’s pray that in his efforts to compromise, we don’t end up with something that looks like it’s a hybrid between KJo and RGV’s creations. Argh!

Two-Tongued Ram Gopal Verma takes a cheap potshot at Karan Johar
Ram Gopal Verma sure has a thing or two to learn about consistency. Barely a few days after he heaped praises on Karan Johar’s NRI-infested, Pepto-Bismol drama, Ramu literally ate his words by claiming that his ‘horror-thrillers’ are way more exciting than ‘candyfloss NRI stories’.
Confused?
Take a look at what Ramu had to say to a Mumbai tabloid:
“Some people have a fascination for making family dramas and I find making thrillers more exciting. And what’s wrong with it?…any day it’s better than making NRI stories.”
Well, your statement sounds excellent in theory Ramu… the problem is that you do such a terrible job of producing your ‘horror-thrillers’ or whatever they are, that KJo’s candyfloss pales in comparison. Let’s get some creative plots and solid work back into your repertoire before you start criticizing others and blowing your own rusty trumpet.

Just when you thought Ram Gopal Varma had leant his lesson with the monumental debacle he had affectionately christened Agyaat, the maverick filmmaker drops yet another bombshell. And no, he hasn’t learnt his lesson and will do pretty much all it takes to wipe away any trace memories of his memorable masterpieces like Rangeela, Satya and Company. All this just to create another monstrosity called Agyaat – Part 2.
The plot?
Nitin Reddy and Priyanka Kothari who, unfortunately survived to tell the Unknown tale, bring the Agyaat monster back into the city where it creates ‘widespread chaos and mayhem’. In Ramu’s words, it will just be like the Blair Witch Project, or John Carpenter’s The Thing; perhaps, even scarier.
Ummm… Ramu, let’s do this as delicately and sensitively as possible. People actually enjoyed the Blair Witch Project, and were terrified to pieces while watching The Thing. The only real impact Agyaat successfully delivered was a firmer resolve to boycott all RGV Productions… forever.
But knowing Ramu, he’ll probably go ahead and make that dratted movie anyway… just to prove his defiance and unconventionality. Sigh!

There seems to be no escaping Ramu’s idiosyncrasies. His quirkiness has reached a new level altogether.
Imagine mistaking Mahendra Singh Dhoni for some pesky wannabe actor looking for a break in his movies and shooing him away.
Reportedly, the pair happened to be at the Bangalore Airport at the same time. The ever courteous Dhoni went up to greet RGV when his shocking behaviour took poor Dhoni by surprise. Ramu’s infamous words to Dhoni were- “Take my office number. Drop off your photos there.”
Makes me wonder sometimes about the IQ level of these filmy types. With RGV, after watching Agyaat and hearing that he’s planning a sequel to the horror of horrors, my doubts have been confirmed- this guy has the IQ level of a five year old.
Ramu seems to be existing in a bubble, totally cut-off from reality. No wonder his films suck!
Dear Ramuji, we understand you’re not too crazy about cricket but not recognizing the captain of the national cricket team is taking your ignorance a bit too far.
Sometimes ignorance is just not bliss!!

Ram Gopal Verma was recently reported to have said that Karan Johar’s movies are quite realistic.
Yes, you heard me right. That was RGV talking about KJo’s movies.
No, he’s fine, thank you. (We act this way sometimes on the eve of a movie release. You have to do and say outrageous things, even hang corpses, when there’s a Friday glaring at you.)
And, apparently, RGV’s change of heart about KJo’s films happened after he attended Abhi and Aish’s wedding. He says,
“For a long time I detested Karan’s larger-than-life, feel-good, glossy movies. I found them too ostentatious, coming as I did from a lower middle-class background. I found all the razzmatazz and the shoo-shaa all very unrealistic. But I was forced to change my viewpoint after I attended the Abhishek-Aishwarya shaadi. I saw exactly the same grand visual and a larger-than-life event at their wedding, that’s when I realised that Karan is far closer to reality than I am (at least in portraying the upper-middle class society).”
Hmm, I’d love to believe RGV, but it’s hard to take his words at face value. Was he still being his snide self in implying that KJo’s movies are meant only for a niche audience? (Oh God, writing about celebs makes you such a non-believer?!)
*Wink* KJo, you better return the love and have nice things to say about Agyaat. *Wink*

It’s almost been five years since Nisha Kothari debuted in RGV’s ‘James’. In these last five years, the amount of clothes on her body and the number of her films that bummed at the box office have had a inverse relationship!
Now with both RGV and his favorite protégé Nisha banking their hopes on Agyaat, wishing for a miracle to revive their careers, the stakes are running high. I don’t know about RGV because I still am reeling from his ‘Phoonk’ but Nisha just might have one last chance at redemption if she can manage to ditch Ramu and still get work.
Nisha, your fondness for RGV is quite apparent, but honey, this is Bollywood and your youth will not always be on your side. Sweetiekins, I’d suggest you stop waiting to for Ramu to conjur up a miracle and set camp in front of the Bhatts. Maybe they’ve got something better up their sleeves for you…

Just as the dust was beginning to settle on the Rann-National Anthem hullabaloo, controversy’s favourite child Ram Gopal Verma has managed to stir the hornet’s nest yet again.
This time it’s the extremely distasteful publicity gimmick he’s thought up for his latest horror flick Agyaat.
What was he thinking when he hung up those grotesque corpses on the hoardings for the film? If the intention was to shock and surprise the public, let me tell you Ramuji, nobody’s amused; repulsed is more like it.
RVG’s penchant for ruffling feathers is quite legendary by now. First it was his vulgar grab at cheap publicity when he visited the scene of the 26/11 carnage with VilasRao Deshmukh, then the controversy over the theme song for Rann, and now this.
Hmm… I wonder if its just his bad Karma that makes lands him in trouble so often or whether it’s a masterfully crafted plan to grab headlines whenever and wherever possible. Yup, it’s definitely the latter I think…
We hope only Ramu and his corpses end up watching the movie.
Boo!
